so their tribe name is Phkaloum, and Kenyon is going to make the banner? Is that correct? Did anyone volunteer to write why we chose the name/flag and what it means? Is Von doing that?

Tomorrow we will go through the final discussion as to what we are doing. I need to get myself some rest and I think we all should get more RAM in our brains for tomorrow so we can think straight and do well in this challenge. Good night everyone!

I personally believe that I am a good writer, so if you do not mind, can I write the description if Kenyon doesn't want to (if he was going to do it)

Okay, I worked on it a bit. How does everyone like this: please check for spelling errors first and foremost lol. if you have any suggestions they are obviously greatly appreciated! any ideas on how to make this better? or build on it / re-do something / start-over the image of yak loum is in the background as well as a khmer lotus flower with the cambodia logo. i added a mekong dolphin image to space out the pictures for 2 reasons 1) because the mekong dolphin is symbolic to the game and 2) we are supposedly playing on the shores of the tonle sap, and the mekong river flows into that lake. we needed something to tie us back into our location of playing (since yak loum is in a different area). i can start writing stuff about the flag, like ideas and things we should try to cover - so whoever is writing the description has a little reference.

okay, i guess this is for kyle. i compiled what travis and others have wrote and what appears to be the general consensus
talk about:
1. how Phka comes from Phka chhouk which is khmer for lotus flower (with Phka meaning lotus). The lotus is very symbolic in Cambodian culture and Buddhism, and is often used as an offering during religious ceremonies. I also found this explanation of the lotus: "the lotus symbolizes birth and rebirth through the fact that the petals open when the sun comes out and close when the sun sets. Also a symbol for fertility, creation, and purity. The long stem symbolizes our connection to our origins, while the flower represents the enlightenment to which we aspire." Birth and rebirth is a pretty cool survivor theme, and in addition to that - fertility is represented by the fact that it is an all-female tribe.
2. how loum comes from Yak Loum which is a lake in northeastern Cambodia (Loum is the name of it). The lake is tremendously deep, clean, clear, and almost entirely round - maybe tie that into the necessity of trust, transparency and character needed to succeed in the game. It is also very rich with culture as it is believed that the surrounding forest is a spirit forest with mythical creatures, and that according to legend only those who are pure and innocent are capable of swimming in it, which is again another important theme of survivor.
3. Together, Phkaloum roughly translates to lotus on lake Loum, which could be interpreted as the balance between fertlity and creation in a sea of innocence - which is really significant in a lot of religious texts like the Bible. The thought of James in survivor china comes to mind when he was like "don't eat the apple! don't do it!" which shows how well this motif applies to survivor: like the fruit of knowledge is always there tempting you and it's a matter of overcoming temptation versus the curiosity of change. Also, the image of Yak Loum and a lotus are transposed in the background of the flag.
4. The Mekong dolphin is included, again because of it's power in the game as well as a way of tying the flag back to our location near the Tonle Sap, as I think the Tonle Sap flows south into the Mekong river. I found this on dolphin symbolism: "Dolphins tend to be very spiritual creatures and we associate them with beautiful harmonious feelings and great intelligence. They can link with good communication within a relationship and spiritual excitement."
Okayy other than that - it's up to you. I really have to go now, so good luck!!!

hey im out for a bit... so since I wasn't sure who was going to be leader of the challenge and post it.. I decided not to do since I didn't make hte flag and no one was around to talk too.. And I don't know if Kyle is done with teh writing and since the leader has to post everything in the new thread I decided to jsut wait till later and let someone else post it all to the thread.. if no one does it before the deadline (if im back before it.. i will post it) If I'm not back.. i hope someone else posts it. I feel I don't make the best leader for this chalelnge since I didn't do that flag and Kyle is writing it up. I thin Kyle should be the leader.

Wow pass out early one night and look at all the things that HAPPEN!
lol.
I am utterly impressed. Good job guys!!!
Didn't realize how much nuts I still have to get done before I'm off and traveling, but I'll be here for the support. I think we won this one. No doubt.
Especially if you, Kyle, write up something really great for our explanation using Aroh's information.
As for the flag, love it. The transparency of the lotus is very enigmatic. Really cool feel to it.

Im just not sure if we should have the Survivor:Cambodia logo on it. Because we are making a tribe name and flag for them as if they were a real tribe, and not competing in a game. But thats just my opinion.
